From Bench to Bedside fulfills a life long dream of mine. This podcast is a place to explore medical history and technological advances in diagnosing and treating disease. When I was 15 years old and signed up for my very first email address on a ace dial up internet, my handle was "BioMedMel", a nod my passion for both science and medicine as well as the hope that the science chatrooms I hung out in wouldn't identify me as a 16 year old girl. One that spent as much as her free time surfing northern California waves as she did on PubMed at the local university library, but, none the less, a 16 year old girl.
I have pursued the world of biotech, science, and medicine relentlessly from getting a PhD to starting a biotechnology company. Indeed there is more to come. Along the way I discovered that sharing my passion through social media is almost as exciting as discovering new ideas within the field.
So, here we are.
From Bench to Bedside dives into the intricate and often accidental world of biomedical development. It is a world riddled with passionate characters, years of stagnation in medical treatment broken by seeming strokes of genius, and heroic societal efforts to tackle human disease and alleviate suffering. Along the way are countless neglected diseases and rare afflictions that will also be explored and highlighted in an effort to ensure they are not ever forgotten. Perhaps if we are lucky, the story telling here will serve to inspire more focus in these areas.
Welcome, I hope you have as much fun here as I will.
